Very insightful post, Alison! I have identified quite a few of my energy-zappers here in this post. I could definitely stand to drink more water, eat less pasta, and manage my "unbalanced primary foods." I am taking notes and working to do better. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi Mary! Thanks. You sound like you're on the right path. Perhaps some testing for your thyroid hormones, as well as for iron, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B-12, might reveal areas where mineral/vitamin deficiencies might be lurking. And even 15-30 minutes more sleep each night would help a lot!

What small steps could you consider to increase your sleep time, Chris? And how could you incrementally lessen your exposure/interaction with stressful scenarios?

I used to have a lot of energy, but now that I’m in my mid-30s I’ve noticed I wake up tired and stay tired all day. My diet is clean, I exercise I hydrate, I think I need to get more sleep at night and take more vitamins. Thank you for all of your tips. It really helps.

Ah, such great information here Alison! I need more rest- that is my number one thing to work on. I don't get enough sleep EVER.

But I am super sensitive to stressful situations or people- and I know that/they can be draining on my energy, so I try to keep healthy boundaries too.

Wow, I wish I could say the same re: entire years of feeling energetic every day, no matter what I'm eating/sleeping. I'm trying to take my own advice here with this blog post! :-) But Bobby might be right too. Some of our energy drain comes from being backed up (hence the need for water--and fiber) and hence feeling draggy. He's on to something there!

You reminded me of my friend Bobby. Whenever anyone would complain about being tired (we were only in our 20's, after all) he'd say, "Have a fiber pill and then go to the bathroom! You're just backed up."
It used to make me giggle but I'll bet he was right.
My exhaustion levels are unfortunately controlled by my emotions. I can have entire years of feeling energetic every day, no matter what I'm eating/sleeping. Weird!
But I'm still all about doing healthy habits.
